I had a final round interview for a manager role at a tier 2 company. HR said feedback was positive but they’d assess other candidates too. It’s been 10 days with no update. Is this normal or should I take it as a silent rejection and move on?

Hello there,

Considering that it is a managerial position with other candidates applying to it, it may be fair a 10 days period considering the synchronization of candidates’ and partners’ schedules + internal alignment on the decision considering the outcome of the different interviewees. Feel free to reach out to HR and if you don’t hear from them, it’s probably time to move on.

Good luck!

Best,

Mari

Hey there,

10 day waiting time isn't uncommon for management consulting firms to give feedback. Sometimes it can even go up to a month in worse circumstances. There may be many reasons (that have nothing to do with you or your performance) for why they haven't gotten back to you...

And even if you were to take it as a rejection and move on, then what happens if they come back to you with some great news! :-) Ultimately, your feedback will come... And if it's starting to take much longer than you'd like, then a gentle and professional follow-up would be completely reasonable

Wishing you all the best!

Hi,

It's normal the company needs some time to consider your application/interview. The only thing you can do is reach out to HR and ask about the next steps.

Good luck.

Hello!

It's normal that internal HR processes take longer than anticipated - someone is on vacation, there was another priority, another candidate has limited availability, etc.

Send them an email and ask, no one ever did not get the offer because they asked for a status update :) also, don't be afraid to be honest about your situation (if for example you have a deadline to answer another offer), majority of people will try their best to accommodate.

Best of luck, hope you get the job!

Hi there,

Q: HR said feedback was positive but they’d assess other candidates too. It’s been 10 days with no update. Is this normal or should I take it as a silent rejection and move on?

A period of 10 days is relatively long after a final interview; however, there might be multiple reasons why the delay could be unrelated to your performance and you might still receive an offer:

  • Partners got busy and cannot align to provide feedback
  • HR got busy and cannot align to provide feedback
  • They want to conclude the process with the candidates in the pipeline
  • They want to align on the future project pipeline to define the exact recruiting needs
  • Some companies in the Middle East (mainly Tier 2) take a long time to reply by default, so this waiting period might be normal for them

If you want, given that 10 days have passed, you can reach out for a follow-up.

Good luck!

Hello,

It's perfectly normal - they are probably waiting to conduct the interviews of the other candidates, debrief with the interviewers, and then decide who to extend the offer to. Good luck!

Best,

David

Hi!

This doesn't sound like a rejection, but if I were you, I'd reach out again when 2 weeks passes.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Good luck!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on going through the entire application process!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, while ten days seems to be within the normal range, it does not really matter because there is nothing you can do at this point. Instead, I would advise you to be patient, even if it's uncomfortable.
  • Moreover, consulting firms almost always give you feedback, whether it is positive or negative. So there really is no such thing as a "silent rejection".

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

1. At this level, there are no silent rejections

2. It takes time to assess multiple candidates.

In any case, don't stop your recruiting efforts.

Hi there,

Two thoughts on this:

  • The waiting period is still not out of ordinary. It might take up to 3-4 weeks in the worst case. Senior positions often have longer waiting periods due to alignment of interviewers, scheduling issues with more senior candidates.
  • Silent rejections would be uncommon.

You are still in the race - fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian
