I received a BCG rejection email, but think there has been an error regarding my online case assessment status. How do I respond?

I applied to BCG Middle East for a Consultant role. I had a referral from a Project Leader, and submitted good CV with well crafted cover letter - The JD matched my profile well. I got the application confirmation email, and then 18 days later I received this...

We were impressed with your accomplishments and abilities, but after reviewing your results from the Online Case Experience Assessment, we have decided not to pursue your application further.

I was expecting to receive an invite to do an online assessment and have been preparing accordingly. However, I received no correspondence (email / phone call) with an invite to do the online case from BCG.  I have checked my junk mail in detail and nothing was there, and the fact I have received other emails from BCG implies they do have my correct email. I can see only 3 scenarios here...

  1. My CV did not pass screening, but there was an error in how BCG have communicated this.
  2. There was an error in the application post CV screening, resulting in me not receiving the invite for the online case.
  3. Some other unknown issue

I also recently completed Bain SOVA (also with referral), and the application is ongoing - which implies I passed their CV screen. And considering BCG explicitly stated my results from the online case were considered for my rejection, I'm assuming my CV (scenario 1) was not the issue. So my hypothesis is scenario 2, but this somewhat guessing at this stage.

I have reached out to my referral for their advice, but wanted to as if anybody in this forum has any similar experience, or advice before I reply directly to the BCG Talent Team.

Hi there,

You analyzed the potential scenarios well. The only to really find out is to not waste time and ask the HR team directly!

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your negative experience with BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • I would highly advise you to reach out to the BCG recruiting team as soon as possible clarifying the discrepancy between the expected BCG Casey pre-interview assessment invitation and the rejection based on the BCG Casey results you apparently never took.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen
