Strategy& DACH positioning

Strategy& seems to be even more selective than MBB recently in DACH. My question is,

1. is S& on par with MBB prestige in 2024 in DACH?

2. what does Strategy& offer that MBB does not?

For context, through LinkedIn their average FT since 2023 is extremely strong. This includes STEM Phds with European level prizes/grants for their research. Also a significant proportion of employees seem to have been valedictorians of their class compared to Top 10% at MBB. Many FT have previous MBB internships. Lastly, for their second level position (Senior Associate) they have hired people with 4+ years of experience in other consulting companies or strategy departments.

Next, in my friend circle (5 people who had recruited for consulting) all had been invited to BCG, 4/5 to McK and Bain. Yet only 2/5 were invited to Strategy&. From them only one had received an offer. The other was rejected even though ending up receiving offers from BCG and Bain. The person who eventually got the offer, ended up choosing Strategy& over McKinsey!?

As former Strategy& alum, I agree with Florian's remarks. It's a great firm but has been even more selective recently with slowing of pipeline. Feel free to get in touch if you have any more questions

Hi there,

  1. No, not even close. Situation has worsened since the acquisition by PWC.
  2. Potentially a higher salary (not sure but would make sense to attract cross-offer holders).

Could explain why the person chose S& over McK. One thing to consider is that during a downturn, T2 firms are much more affected by slower project demand, hence the hiring also becomes slower = fewer invites.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi Florian, thanks for your answer! That makes sense. I heard back from the person with the McK crossover and indeed the person chose S& over McK as it offered 20k€ more with more humane working hours. Cheers and have a good start to the week, Valentin
