I am a student who had a McKinsey first round interview for one of their specialized roles, I received a generic email (not from my specific recruiter for the role but from McKinsey recruiting overall) saying that this interview will be rescheduled for a “future date” due to the hurricane in Florida. This role is not based in their Florida location, so I am confused and just want to make sure this is normal protocol and that I can expect to interview. I’m used to other employers ghosting so am worried this may be the case. Does this normally happen?
McKinsey Interview USA rescheduled for “future date”
Hi there,
First of all, congratulations on the invitation from McKinsey!
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:
- First of all, rescheduling interviews due to events like hurricanes is not unusual, even if your role is not in the affected area.
- Moreover, I would advise you to contact the McKinsey recruiter for clarification to ease your concerns.
You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Best,
Hagen
Hi there,
If they are telling you it's because of the hurricane, you can rest assured that it's true.
Could be related to unavailability of consultants who interview you (they could be from the region even if your role is not based in Florida) or administrative personnel who facilitate the interviews (AFAIK McK has a cluster of admin in the area).
All the best,
Florian
Hey!
This can be totally normal! I always advise calling HR if you have any doubts or want further information! Just go ahead & call! :)
Best, Alessa
Hi there,
There has most definitely been some disruption to the plans for this recruitment (e.g., availability of key interviewer, regional recruiting node, etc.), which explains the email you received.
You needn't worry about being ghosted - ideally, you should get a response even if hiring for that role gets cancelled eventually. For additional assurance, you can reach out to your recruiter directly just to reconfirm the information and get an indication of when the process will resume (unlikely they'd have that information already though).
All the best,
Fathu
