Hi. I graduated from university last year and have been working full-time in something unrelated to consulting. I'm looking to apply for McKinsey's Business Analyst position (in the United States) with a start date in 2025. I've had many calls already with different McKinsey consultants but most of them tend to be in the dark when it comes to recruiting. I've been told that, even though I'm targeting the entry-level position, I would need to go the experienced hire recruiting route. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight on if/when that recruiting is taking place. I haven't had any luck getting into contact with recruiters involved with experienced hires thus far. I'm also pretty geographically flexible so if anyone has any information on this for other regions aside from the US, I'd love to hear it. Thanks so much for the help.
McKinsey Experienced Hire Recruiting US
I am an EP hire myself and have helped a few EP candidates get offers in my office.
There is no set timeline like the MBA/APD campus hires and it is rolling basis (hire year around). The most critical thing to get connected to the recruiter in the office you are interested in and there's usually one recruiter in charge of EP hire in the office/region.
I have referred a friend ~1month ago and heard that EP hire is still very very slow in NA.
Best of luck and let me know if I can be more helpful in any ways.
Hi there,
It depends. Experienced hiring should usually be year-round.
However, I know from my other clients that McKinsey US is extremely cautious at the moment with interview and hiring planning this year - it's all a bit delayed and also depends on factors such as return offers for current interns.
The best and most reliable information should come from HR. Ask one of your connections to put you in touch with them - it's their job to answer these questions and help applicants out!
All the best,
Florian
Great to hear that you've had chats with some of the existing consultants, but regarding timelines and recruiting availability, you actually need to speak with a recruiter / HR.
So figure out who is the contact to reach out to in your target location (ask even the consultants you chatted with).
Then have a 10-15 min chat with the recruiter to figure out what role would be best for you and when you should apply.
And make sure that you do this with several firms, not only McKinsey so you distribute your risk a bit.
Best,
Cristian
Hi there,
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:
- First of all, experienced hire recruiting is year-round, although I am surprised that there seems to be so little information about it on the McKinsey website.
- Moreover, I would advise you to ask one of the consultants you connected with to put you in contact with a recruiter. After all, it's their job to shed light on the current experienced hires recruiting situation in the USA.
You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Best,
Hagen
Experienced hire recruiting happens on a rolling basis. Meaning that you can apply anytime.
