Alix Partners Business Analyst Program

Hi there,

I have been invited to interview for a business analyst position at Alix Partners as part of their BA program that looks to hire mostly MBA students. I was wondering firstly if anyone has insights into this program - what is it like and what time of the year it is expected to start - i couldn't find this on their website.

Secondly, my first interview is a screening call with HR. Has anyone been through this and can let me know what sort of questions I can expect to hear? If I am lucky to progress through, what should I expect from the following interviews?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Congrats!

  1. The screening call is usually fit-focused (Why you, why consulting, why Alix, etc.). They will also go over logistics, timeline, etc. with you.
  2. The following interviews are the same as every other consulting interview
    1. Conducted by actual consultants
    2. Mix of fit and case in each interview

All the best,

Florian

1. Quite unlikely that BA roles are going to MBAs

2. HR want's to make sure you are aligned with the role and the company. Expect the usual (tell me about yourself, why consulting, why Alix Partners, why this office). I can help preparing for these.

3. Afterwards is the usual strategy case interview process.

Hey there 😊,

Yes! A friend of mine works at AlixPartners and went through their Business Analyst (BA) Program, so I can definitely share some insight for you:

💼 About the Program

– It’s a rotational program with strong exposure to turnaround, transformation, and performance improvement work
– They often hire MBA students or early professionals with strong analytical backgrounds
– Start dates usually depend on the region, but typically begin in July–September, with onboarding in cohorts

📞 HR Screening Call – What to Expect

– Why AlixPartners? Why this BA role?
– Walk me through your resume
– Interest in restructuring, performance improvement, or implementation-heavy work
– Availability, salary expectations, and relocation flexibility
– Sometimes a light behavioral question like:

“Tell me about a time you had to work in a high-pressure environment”

📊 Next Rounds – If You Progress

1–2 case interviews, more operational/quant-heavy than MBB (think profitability, cost reduction, turnaround)
– May include behavioral / fit questions focused on resilience, leadership, and teamwork under pressure
– Some regions include a business scenario or presentation-based case

Let me know if you’d like to prep for the interview format or case styles—I’d be happy to support you 😊

Best,
Alessa 😇

Hi there,

I have experience with the AlixPartners Business Analyst (BA) Program from friends that have successfully been through it and can share some insights.

Program Overview & Start Time

The BA program is primarily designed for MBA students or professionals with a few years of experience, offering exposure to turnaround, restructuring, and performance improvement work. While exact start dates may vary, most full-time hires start in summer or early fall, similar to other consulting programs. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend reaching out to HR or recent hires for more specifics on your intake timeline.

HR Screening Call

The initial HR interview is fairly standard and usually covers:
    •    Resume walkthrough – Expect questions about your experience and why you’re interested in AlixPartners.
    •    Why AlixPartners? – Highlight your interest in turnaround consulting, restructuring, and operational transformation.
    •    Behavioral questions – Common ones include challenges you’ve faced, leadership experiences, and teamwork examples.
    •    Availability & logistics – They might confirm your timeline and work authorization status.

Subsequent Interviews

If you progress, you’ll typically face:
    1.    Case Interviews – These are less traditional than MBB cases, often more qualitative, operational, and financially focused (e.g., diagnosing a distressed company, identifying cost-cutting measures, or assessing turnaround strategies).
    2.    Behavioral/fit interviews – Emphasis on resilience, leadership, and working in high-pressure situations.
    3.    Technical/financial discussions (depending on role) – Some interviews might touch on financial statements, liquidity issues, or operational KPIs relevant to turnaround work.

Overall, AlixPartners values practical problem-solvers with a strong business acumen, so emphasize structured thinking, commercial awareness, and a hands-on approach to solving business challenges.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or if you need help preparing —happy to help!

Best,
Evelina

Hi there!
Usually Business Analyst roles are not for post MBA students, but for those that have recently graduated or have little work experience. I don't know about the dates, but you can ask HR directly about it.

The screening call is pretty similar to other companies (T2), where the recruiter will talk about the role, ask you to walk her through your resumé and respond to some questions you may have. Be prepared to be asked about a challenge you have been faced, a story of perseverance and similar prompts. I found this description in their website:

Speaking with a member of our Talent Acquisition team, you’ll have the opportunity to share your relevant experience, career goals and interest in the role. Your interviewer will provide background about the role and team and answer questions you have about AlixPartners and our culture.

Good luck in your first call, fingers crossed :)
Feel free to DM me if you need professional assistance to tackle the case and behavioral interview with confidence after you move forward in the process!
I offer a free 20min alignment call where we can discuss your current situation, my coaching approach and craft a solid study plan for you.
