Accenture Domain expertise interview section - Energy Consultant

Hello all,

Does anyone have any what type of questions or knowledge would be expected in the 'Domain expertise' section for an Accenture Management Consultant interview? How would this part of the interview be structured?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I am not familiar with it but did a bit of digging. I would say it will still be structured very similarly to a normal Consulting interview but probably with somebody from the Practice Area (i.e., Energy) and an Energy related case. I would not think that they necessarily test your for fact based knowledge.

However, best to briefly ask your recruiting contact. I would simply say that you would like to optimally prepare and if it is possible to give you an indication on how that part of the interview is going to be structured.

Best,
Sebastian

When I ran domain expertise interviews at Accenture, I focused on three main areas:

1. Details of the work you’ve done in that industry in the past

2. Industry perspectives and your take on general or macro-level questions

3. Situational questions exploring how you’d solve a specific client problem using your expertise

Alberto

Hey there 😊,

Yes! For the Domain Expertise section of an Accenture Management Consultant – Energy role, they’ll want to assess both your industry knowledge and your ability to think strategically within that sector. It’s less about technical depth and more about showing that you understand key trends, challenges, and solutions in energy.

You can expect things like:
– “What are the biggest challenges facing energy companies today?”
– “How do you see digital transformation impacting utilities or oil & gas?”
– “How would you advise a traditional energy player looking to transition to renewables?”
– “What KPIs would you track for an energy transformation program?”

It’s often a conversational deep dive, sometimes with a short mini-case to assess how you apply knowledge. The focus is on structure, commercial awareness, and client impact—not being a technical expert 😊

If you want, I can help you prep some tailored answers or mock questions before the interview!

Best,
Alessa 😇

You should be able to understand value chain, key technologies, current trends and their implications, as well as supply and demand drivers in the Energy Sector.

Hi there,

Same core skills as any consulting case - structuring, problem-solving, analytics, communication. For the domain expertise part, they’ll likely test your grasp of key industry dynamics. Nothing too deep, but you should know major trends, challenges, and how businesses make money in that space.

Quick tip: get ChatGPT to write you an industry primer with key figures, value chain, recent trends, and common problems.

Cheers,

Florian
