When do you bold words/phrases in sentences in a MBB Powerpoint?

Hello, I was recently on a BCG webinar, and one thing that I thought was cool, but couldn't quite figure out was the pattern of bolded words in the presentation.  Could someone shed some light on when you would bold words/phrases in a powerpoint page?

Bolding is used to have important phrases stand out and draw the audience's eyes to those phrases. Even though consultants keep slides as uncluttered as possible and verbiage as brief as possible, we want to quick draw audience's attention to the most important points.

E.g. here's a bullet with a question where the key point to think about is bolded to catch the audience's attention and get them thinking:

  • Is this the best division for working sessions? Who else should be included in working sessions?

E.g. here's a bullet point where the presenter wanted the key recommended action to stand out:

•As much focus and time on distributing the content (new formats and channels), as on developing it

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

Bold words/phrases in slides to:

  1. Highlight key takeaways or conclusions.
  2. Emphasize critical data points or metrics.
  3. Draw attention to action items or recommendations.
  4. Differentiate sections or key terms in dense text.

More is less in this context :-)

Cheers,

Florian
