Hey, is anyone preparing for a data science consulting role where they test technical business cases? If so, would you be interested in practicing together?
Preparation for data science consulting
Hey there,
I would recommend you check out two things:
1. Case Interviews in general
2. Interviews like the McKinsey Technical Expertise Interview
Learning how both work can help you with your current recruiting challenge (even if you are not directly applying with McKinsey).
For cases, look for relevant examples that combine data science principles with business applications. For the way to approach these, the same principles apply as they do for a normal case.
The technical interview typically involves an in-depth exploration of technical topics, data analysis, and YOUR application in solving real-world business challenges. It’s not just about understanding algorithms and data structures, but also about leveraging these tools to extract meaningful business insights.
All the best,
Florian
Hi Michele,
I've worked with a couple of candidates who were applying for DS roles in consulting so I can share a case example if that helps. Reach out over DMs.
I also encourage you to discuss with HR what type of cases you can expect during the interview. From my experience, for DS interviews, they will have the regular consulting interview format PLUS a technical interview where they will want to test your DS knowledge. The better you understand what the expectations are, the more tailored you can be with your prep.
Best,
Cristian
Hi Michèle,
If you are targeting McKinsey, send me a message. I used to interview data scientist profiles and I am very familiar with the process.
Plus, I can connect you with some former data scientist colleagues at McKinsey who can guide you on the more technical part.
Best,
Alberto

Hey Michele!
Not quite the right forum. Reddit/Fishbowl/Glassdoor will probably serve you better :)
