Opinion on odds at BCG

Hi All,

Just wanted an honest input on my odds of hire -

Completed my Direct-Entry PhD in Stem from UofT, 4.0 cGPA, multiple publications, presentations, awards

I landed a position as a general consultant in a boutique beginning ~7 months ago, and since then I progressed to a Sr Consultant role and now lead the company's vertical in the Life Science market, having built the client base myself (they previously had no work in this market).

I also have a referral from a current BCG consultant (also PhD).

I previously applied right out of my degree (with no experience) I didn't get the interview, however I'm hoping the combination of referral and progression since then will work in my favour.

Do you think there is a chance of success at this time?

I don't have any professional experience in this space, but YES! Go for it!

Hi there,

You have a great profile, and seems you have a lot you can showcase to BCG. It is super impressive that you've been leading a vertical and building client base by yourself!

How long has it been since your last application? Just wondering if you have passed the ban period or not. If so, I think you have a really good chance - just make sure you bring out the great points in your resume and prepare well for the interviews!

Feel free to DM if I can help.

Best,

Emily

You’ve got a strong shot. Your PhD, rapid promotion + success in building a  vertical are big pluses for work ownership. The referral helps, but the key is nailing the interview. Make sure your resume highlights impact, and prep cases well—BCG will focus on structured problem-solving. Much better odds than last time, so go for it!

Hello there,

In line with the previous comments, I believe you definitely have a chance!
Two things to have in mind:

1. Build a strong CV highlighting your accomplishments since you apply for the first time. However, it may be that the way you crafted your CV was the reason for you not being considered in the first attempt (that is a common mistake)

2. Prepare for the interviews before your friend refers you - you don’t want to get caught off guard and waste this opportunity by being unprepared when the interview is scheduled.

If you need professional guidance to craft a solid CV, build a studying strategy and teach you how to tackle case interviews successfully, count on me :) I offer a free alignment call to discuss candidates’ situation and explain my approach - feel free to DM me if interested.

Best,

Mari

Hi guys, I recently reached out to a partner at McKinsey and he kindly introduced me to the recruiter there to share my resume. I shared by resume 3 weeks ago and followed up recently but I haven’t received a response. Does it mean that I won’t get a response i.e, rejection??
