Hi guys, I recently reached out to a partner at McKinsey and he kindly introduced me to the recruiter there to share my resume. I shared by resume 3 weeks ago and followed up recently but I haven’t received a response. Does it mean that I won’t get a response i.e, rejection??

If a partner shared your resume, the recruiter should at least have a conversation with you. While most partners will allow the recruiting team to handle the initial screening, partners' recommendations still hold weight in the process.

I suggest you follow up in about a week and wait for a response. While you're waiting, applying to other firms will help build confidence and keep your options open. Even if nothing else comes of it, following up will provide clarity on where you stand.

Good luck.

Hey!

It's not necessarily a rejection. Recruiting at McKinsey can be slow, especially with partner referrals, as recruiters handle many candidates and often prioritize based on internal timelines. Since you’ve followed up, give it a bit more time. If you don’t hear back in another week or two, consider reaching out again with a polite, brief follow-up expressing your continued interest and appreciation for their consideration. Persistence shows genuine interest, which can be valuable in consulting.

Good luck! Alessa

Hi there,

AFAIK McKinsey Canada is not planning any more interviews this year, so it could be that they are considering you for early next year, hence the delay.

If the partner referred you, this is already a good sign that your resume is good enough.

It would definitely make sense to reach out to HR again directly (call them) and ask about the status of your application.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers,

Florian
