McKinsey SOLVE game current content (DACH Region)

Hi there!

I'll take the SOLVE assessment on the upcoming sunday. While there are great resources out there to prepare (even Simulations of the real assessment?), there's also some contradicting information as to the content of the SOLVE assessment. Since McKinsey has changed the type and number of games in the past, I was wondering if somebody who has recently taken the test can tell me which games are currently included. I am applying for an position in Germany.

To my knowledge, it is safe to assume that the following games will be included:

- Ecosystem
- Redrock Study

Moreover, I have heard that there is a new game called "Ocean Cleanup", can somebody confirm this?

Best regards!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Based on the experience of my coachees, in addition to the Ecosystem and Redrock Study games, the Ocean Treatment game has become more and more common lately.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment and McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

The Ocean Cleanup is a weird one.

It seems that it's still in the trial stage since summer and not an active part of the evaluation. Even if you encounter it (not all do), it's likely used to calibrate the difficulty for future candidates.

In that sense, the only two games you should expect are the ones you mentioned, the ecosystem and the redrock (with its 2 stages).

Disclaimer: It could be that they change this at any given moment (they have done so in the past), but the lineup has been rather stable for a while now.

All the best,

Florian

Yes, Ecosystem and Redrock appear 100% of the time at the moment.

The Ocean Treatment / Ocean Cleanup game appears in some games (DACH region included), but not all of them, based on the numbers I saw from the candidates I helped. When you have that game, it will be in addition to the other two.

If you want to prepare for all the three games, you can find the guide I created below:

Good luck!

My coachees have noticed that the ocean game is becoming increasingly common these days. To be fully prepared, make sure to practice all three games.

Best,

Alberto
