Mckinsey rounds structure

Hello,

From what I am aware, the mckinsey interview round structure changed in the past year, at least in my country office. Last year, there were 2 rounds with 2 interviews each. Now, there is an initial round with just 1 interview, and then there are further interviews.

However, I'm not sure on how many rounds/interviews there are after the first one. I think at some point HR told me there are 2 more interviews, but I also remember someone else telling me there are 3 more interviews. This might be office specific, but in case that it is not I would like to have your help on how much interviews/rounds there are in total.

Thanks!

P.S. - I know I could simply just ask this to HR, but I'm currently waiting for feedback on the first round so it does not make much sense to ask at this point. I just wanted to have an idea on what to expect if I pass the first round.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with McKinsey thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • It is important to check the process directly from reliable sources, especially as I cannot give a specific answer without knowing the country and role. Therefore, I would highly advise you to contact the recruiter at McKinsey regardless of the situation in the interview.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey final round interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Impossible to answer the question if we don't know the office/country.

If the usual case, then the first round will have the Solve Game + 1 Interview, which is a bit longer, covering

  • Personal background
  • PEI
  • Extended case

What follows is usually 3-4 interviews within the 2nd round.

You can learn more about the case and PEI here:

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

In general there are four interviews to conduct, some candidates may also be asked for an additional one interview after that. In your case keep in mind to do three more rounds.

Goodluck,

Yousef

Indeed, you should ask HR.

There's really no proper answer you can get from us because the process differs between regions, offices and roles, plus it changes once in a while when they trial out different formats.

Even if I think within the candidates that I have now who are interviewing with McKinsey, I can already think of 3 different patterns / structures.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. What matters is what they test for, which is exactly the same regardless of the format / sequence in which they do it.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Q: I would like to have your help on how much interviews/rounds there are in total.

This depends on the office and sometimes also on the position. I would expect two or three interviews in the final rounds in your case.

Good luck!

In general, the structure remains the same… so maybe your office is the exception - but unable to confirm (or dismiss) without knowing to which specific office we are referring to.
