McKinsey Edad Rejection

Hi,

I got rejected from McKinsey Edad despite coming from a top global target school with high gpa and strong leadership. I think I messed up the solve game slightly since my ecosystem didn’t work out at the end, but I did decent on redrock and very good on the sea wolf game. Was I rejected because of Solve? And if so, will my score hold since I’m applying for summer internships this upcoming summer?

Hi there,

First of all, sorry for the rejection!
Solve + CV evaluation may be the reason for it, as you’re competing with other applicants for the spot. An average performance in Solve probably weighted more, considering your statement.

I don’t believe the score will be used for the internship program, but it’s worth confirming directly with HR/past participants.

Good luck!

Hi!

I am sorry you were rejected :(

To answer your questions:

  • It could very well be that you were rejected because of Solve, but it could be anything else e.g. strong competition, CV reviews

  • Your score MAY hold if the office uses the scores or if it falls within the "cooling off" period.  But this is office dependent, so I highly highly recommend you reach out to your HR person to find out the details

Good luck!

Yes, it is possible that you were rejected by Solve. Also take into consideration that Mckinsey may be slow in recruiting into your target office.

Solve results are usually valid for 6 months. I believe you will get the internship interview later than that.

Hey there 😊

First of all, I know it’s frustrating to get a rejection — especially when you’ve got a strong profile and put in the effort. But it definitely doesn’t mean you’re out of the running for future McKinsey processes 👊

Yes, it’s possible that Solve played a role in the rejection, especially for Edad where Solve can be a key filter. If your ecosystem didn’t work out and you timed out before submitting, it might have lowered your score. But this doesn’t mean your score was “bad” overall — and it’s just one part of a holistic application review (they also look at CV, GPA, leadership, etc.).

✅ As for whether your Solve score will carry over: yes, McKinsey typically reuses your Solve score if it's recent (usually within 6-12 months). However, for a new role (like a summer internship), they might ask you to retake it — but it depends on the office, role, and timing. If you feel you could’ve done better, there’s still a chance for a fresh start 🙌

If you’d like help strategizing your next application or sharpening your Solve game / interview prep — I’m happy to support!

Best,
Alessa 😊

Hi there,

Sorry to hear!

It sounds like the Solve or some other internal metric that you did not meet. Usually, the Solve result is valid for one year so it might make sense to reach out to HR and clarify before you apply.

All the best,

Florian
