I've been ghosted

Hello all! I was contacted by Mckinsey recruiter back in October, was sent the solve assessment and completed it on 14 November. Since then, I've emailed the recruiter requesting a status update but have heard absolutely nothing. Just crickets. I felt really good about the solve assessment. I finished feeling relieved and confident, I cannot imagine I did poorly. I used Francesco's class (it was awesome)

Any hope for this opportunity or should I move on?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ryan,

I've had processes where it took longer for recruiters to get back to me and I also felt like giving up, but then they got back to me and I moved to the next round (and in some cases I didn't).

I would say it's unclear what the answer is for now (and there could be lots of reasons for delays), so I would keep following up from time to time (maybe weekly) and in the meantime continue with applications for other opportunities as that will make you feel more comfortable with whatever the outcome is for this process.

Best,

Maria

Hey Ryan!

It’s frustrating to feel ghosted, but don’t lose hope just yet! McKinsey’s recruiting process can be slow, especially during busy hiring cycles. While two follow-ups are reasonable, if you haven’t heard back after a month, it’s fair to consider other opportunities while leaving the door open for this one. Recruiters sometimes resurface unexpectedly, so it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of the running. Keep pursuing other paths but stay optimistic—unexpected opportunities often appear when you least expect them! 😊

Hey there,

It is completely not unusual for there to be long periods of no communication in the recruiting process. Totally frustrating, I understand. But what you can take heart in is that your application and test results are not "lost" and eventually you'll get your response.

Good on you for following up! It won't hurt to send another follow up - and even if you know someone in the office you've applied to or if you had a referral, you could ask them also to get in touch with recruiting too

All the best

Hi there,

Since it's been so long, I would try to contact them again but work on alternatives at the same time.

All the best,

Florian

Hey Ryan -- I think you'll have the most success connecting with a consultant in the office who can contact recruiting on your behalf. If you strike out about getting in touch with someone, I'd recommend an email reminder every two weeks- every week might annoy folks.
