Assuming you have a full-time MBA from a top-ranking program, the Consultant (post-MBA) role would be the right one to target. With <1 year of consulting experience at a boutique firm, you won't have a case for a more senior role.

I would encourage you to take the following steps:

  1. Draft a compelling resume/CV
  2. Network with consultants and recruiting team in target office
  3. Secure a referral and ask your point of contact for leveling info
  4. Start prepping for case interviews as soon as you can if it's looking like a viable option for you -- don't want to land an interview and be unprepared

If you need help navigating the process, don't hesitate to reach out!

Hi there,

Post-MBA, you would enter as a Consultant.

Cheers,

Florian

Based on your limited work experience (almost one year as a business analyst), and depending on the prestige of your MBA program, you might want to consider aiming for a more junior role at Bain Middle East to ensure a smoother transition into consulting.

Starting directly as a Consultant can be quite challenging, as it requires a solid foundation in consulting skills and experience. A Senior Associate role (or even Associate, with some tenure recognized for your previous experience) might be a better fit. Many consulting firms adopt this approach, hiring post-MBA candidates into slightly more junior roles to set them up for success.

Remember, it's not a race—it's about building the right skills and expertise to thrive in the long term, both for you and the firm. Best of luck!

You apply for the post-MBA position (Consultant). Your experience may be considered, but will not grant you more seniority given than it is less than one year.

Hey there!

Given your background of nearly one year as a business analyst in a boutique consulting firm and an MBA, the most suitable role to apply for at Bain's Middle East office would likely be the Consultant position. Here’s why:

  1. MBA Degree: Bain typically hires MBA graduates into Consultant roles as it aligns with their career track for post-MBA candidates. This role allows you to leverage the problem-solving and leadership skills gained during your MBA.
  2. Work Experience: Your prior experience as a business analyst in a consulting firm, even if boutique, demonstrates familiarity with consulting processes, client interaction, and project delivery, making you a stronger candidate for a Consultant role.
  3. Middle East Market: Bain Middle East offices tend to have specific needs for professionals with consulting experience and an advanced degree due to the region's focus on high-impact projects in sectors like energy, public sector, and financial services, areas where an MBA-backed Consultant role is highly valued.

If you feel you need additional experience to build confidence, you could consider applying as a Senior Associate Consultant (a step below Consultant), but given your MBA and relevant experience, Consultant is the logical fit. Make sure to tailor your application to highlight leadership, problem-solving, and client management skills from both your MBA and previous role.

Best, Alessa
