How Long Does Recruiter @ McKinsey Take To Move Forward

Had my recruiter call yesterday and was told to expect an email by end of week, early next week. Last time I had an interview with McKinsey some years ago, they moved me to the next round immediately on the call. Is it likely that I've been passed over?

No, I have been an interviewer for McKinsey in UK. After each interview I was doing a meeting to share feedback with HR and other interviewer.s But calls to candidates were scheduled depending on the HR plan - and for both successful and unsuccessful candidates at the same time.

Do you know if this is common practice in the States as well? Also, with a screening, have you already decided to move the candidate forward based on their resume and you're simply looking to see if there are any red flags and go over the logistics of the process?

Hi there,

Not at all - it can take anywhere from a few days up to several weeks (depending on office and time of the year). Currently, everything moves slower.

All the best,

Florian

It's moving slower because of the economy or something else? I've chatted with a few folks on Reddit who went through a screening, albeit different roles/offices in the States, and they've been selected. I'll try to patiently wait but I'd be sorely disappointed if I were to be passed over during a phone screen when I've made it to the final round the last time I interviewed with McKinsey.

Hi there,

it is barely end of this week and not yet early next week. That's when the recruiter said you would hear back. So right now it is still too early to be concerned. You have to let it play out first.

Best of luck

Hi there,

Q: Had my recruiter call yesterday and was told to expect an email by end of week, early next week. Is it likely that I've been passed over?

No, most likely it is simply due to their recruiting needs.

In terms of timing, most likely they will reach out within the timeline they indicated. If you don't hear back within a week from the call, it is fine to follow up.

Good luck!

Hey there,

A general principle I recommend candidates take is to avoid speculation when it comes to recruiting delays :-)

Recruiting timelines have changed over the years and even in a single year, at various points can be slower or faster. So it's not easy to predict an outcome based on a delayed email

Timelines can take anywhere betweeen a day or two up to 2 or 3 weeks, and sometimes even longer. So it's good practice to stay close and in communication with the recruiter when timelines are dragging on

All the best
