Hi,
I’ve gone through a similar process with EY for an M&A case study, so I can share some insights. The 3-hour case study is designed to test both your technical knowledge and your ability to structure and communicate your approach. Here’s what to expect: 1. Case Structure: • Initial Review: You’ll likely receive a case packet with financials, market data, and qualitative information. Allocate time upfront to analyze the materials and identify key insights. • Presentation: Typically, you’ll need to prepare a short presentation (slides or verbal) summarizing your recommendations. Focus on clarity and addressing the main objectives of the case. • Q&A: After presenting, the interviewers will ask follow-up questions to assess your rationale, depth of knowledge, and ability to think on your feet. 2. Key Skills to Showcase: • Strong understanding of M&A concepts (e.g., valuation, synergies, due diligence). • Analytical ability (e.g., interpreting financials, market trends, and risks). • Structured thinking and clear communication in your presentation and Q&A. 3. Preparation Tips: • Brush up on valuation techniques like DCF, multiples, and precedent transactions. • Practice breaking down complex problems into clear, logical steps. • Time yourself analyzing a case to simulate the pressure of a 3-hour format. • Be ready to justify your recommendations with data from the case materials.
If you’re unsure about specific areas, feel free to ask. Also happy to have a coaching session to help you prepare and practice a similar format of case study. Best of luck!
