BCG Offer Extended but My Resume Has Updated Since

Hi all,

I received an offer from BCG as an associate as I just graduated from college (undergrad) mid-2024. When I applied, I hadn’t started my internship at a boutique consulting firm so it wasn’t in my resume. However, during my interviews, I mentioned this internship to them and what I’ve learned.

Since the recruiting process took longer than expected, I accepted my conversion to full time in the boutique firm (but my contract allows me to resign anytime with 1 month notice). My question is, will BCG reprimand me for this (either rescind offer or make the onboarding process difficult)?

Thank you

Hey there,

There's nothing to reprimand you for because you hadn't done anything wrong. When recruiting processes take long, interviewers (i.e. Companies and Firms etc.) know that content within your resume can change in the mean time.

Many times, you can have new items to add in your CV between the lag time in which you apply and have an interview or even start a job. This is normal.

You can feel free to get in touch with recruiting or HR if you want to share an updated resume, but this really shouldn't be a problem

All the best

Hello,

First of all, congratulations on your BCG offer!

It’s highly unlikely that BCG would reprimand you for accepting a full-time position at the boutique firm while awaiting the offer from them. However, it’s important to handle the situation professionally to keep doors open for the future. Since you mentioned the boutique internship during your interviews and clarified that your contract allows for a one-month notice period, this flexibility should mitigate any concerns.

Here’s my suggestion on how you can approach it:
    1.    Be Transparent: Reach out to your BCG recruiter or hiring manager to inform them of your current situation. Emphasize your excitement about joining BCG and reassure them that your commitment to the firm remains strong.
    2.    Provide Notice: Ensure that you’re prepared to leave the boutique firm with the appropriate one-month notice, which should give you enough time to transition smoothly.
    3.    Focus on Your Commitment: Reinforce your eagerness to start at BCG and highlight how your experience at the boutique firm will bring additional skills to your role.

By communicating openly and professionally, you should be able to transition smoothly without any negative impact on your BCG offer. Good luck!

Best,
Evelina

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! Regarding your question:

Q: Will BCG reprimand me for this (either rescind offer or make the onboarding process difficult)?

Unless your BCG contract indicates that you cannot take positions equivalent to the one you had before joining - which seems unlikely - this would not be an issue for BCG.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the offer from BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • No, because the information you provided when you applied was correct, unless there is a clause in your BCG offer contract that says you may not accept any competing offers in the meantime.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey!

BCG is unlikely to reprimand you for the updated resume or for having already accepted a full-time position elsewhere, especially if you’ve been transparent about it during your interviews. However, it’s always a good idea to proactively inform BCG about the update to your resume, emphasizing how the boutique consulting experience has enhanced your skills and would add value to your role at BCG. As long as you're transparent and communicate professionally, this shouldn't negatively impact your offer or onboarding process.

Hey, congrats on the BCG offer!

Unless you signed a non-compete agreement or there's some conflict of interest between those two firms (which is highly unlikely), you've got nothing to worry about.

I'd bring it up with an HR, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck,
Nick
