Reached R2 for BCG interview but first round feedback was "need another read". What are the chances of selection?

Hi,

I am an ex-BCG employee, reapplying 2.5 years later through a  recommendation / referral from a MD & Partner - someone I worked with in the first stint. I had the R1 interview with another MD & Partner and his feedback was that they should get "another read" and I have R2 scheduled with MD & senior partner now. What are the chances of selection if R1 was not clearly positive? Thanks!

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with BCG thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, "another read" typically suggests that the interviewers see potential but want confirmation of consistency. It’s not a negative sign but essentially the purpose of the final interview round.
  • Moreover, I would advise you not to dwell on this feedback and instead focus on continuing your preparation.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there and congrats for passing the first round!

I think chances are still good! Think about it this way: they would have not wasted MD / Senior partner time to interview someone that they think does not have a good chance.

However, you do need to ace that second round!

Did they provide any concrete feedback on what they were unsure about? That's where your focus should be, as that dimension will 100% be the most discussed in the decision process between the interviewers.

Good luck!

Hi there,

"Another read" is not necessarily negative - it's just the purpose of second round interviews in general.

Don't worry and continue with your prep; potentially consider a coach for an alignment session.

Cheers,

Florian

Congratulations on progressing to the next round! It seems the feedback provided wasn't very specific. However, I recommend taking the time to reflect on the areas of the interview you found most challenging and focus on improving those ahead of your second round.

Hi,

The additional read is a chance for you to prove that you have what it takes and meet the bar currently.

Focus on doing that - and you'll be fine :)
