Got invited to an interview but....

Hey,

I recently applied for an internship position at BCG x, got contacted the very next day by the hiring manager, and scheduled an interview. While preparing for the interview, I went back to the portal and noticed that it said "Application not selected", any idea what it could mean?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from BCG X!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • It is most likely a technical error. Either way, if you want to know for sure, I would advise you to contact the recruiter directly to clarify this.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG X pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there,

My coachees have experienced this and it is usually 1 of 2 scenarios:

  • Scenario 1: It's an error or a mistake and the hiring manager / recruitment team can / will fix this
  • Scenario 2: The hiring manager wanted to take you through the process but was overruled by someone else or some set of requirements

Regardless, I feel your only and best course of action is to contact the hiring manager and recruiting team to raise this discrepancy and get confirmation of the true status. No-one other than them will know the real answer to this

I would proceed with the interview and clarify on the call. If it’s stressing you out, reach out to the hiring manager and mention you noticed that status and wanted to confirm they’re moving forward with you.

Hi there, I think that is something you best contact the hiring manager about. Here we could only speculate. Might be an internal system issue.

Hi there,

Q: While preparing for the interview, I went back to the portal and noticed that it said "Application not selected", any idea what it could mean?

This seems a bug in the system. If you have the interview scheduled, I would not worry about it as what matters should be the scheduling done by HR.

Good luck!
