From what I’ve seen, Lazard actualy like most top boutiques, doesn’t expect you to have full modeling experience before your internship, but having a basic understanding definitely helps.
They know interns are there to learn, so what matters more is that you’re comfortable with Excel, understand the key financial statements, and can follow along when models are discussed or updated.
If you have time before the internship, brushing up on things like DCFs, comps, and basic formatting will give you more confidence and help you ramp up faster once you're on the desk. But no one expects you to build a full LBO model on day one.
