I am currently based in Germany and looking for strategy consulting jobs in the EU region or the UK. Realistically speaking, without any connections and knowledge of the local language, which countries have consulting firms that are open to English speakers? I have checked the Netherlands and Germany, but both require knowledge of the local language. The UK, on the other hand, is challenging without a work visa. Do you have any thoughts or advice?
What are countries open to non-local country for consulting roles?
Hi there,
In Europe, the countries that require English only are generally the following:
- The UK
- The Nordics
- The Netherlands (only for some companies - some like McKinsey and BCG require Dutch)
However, if you don’t have local connections, you will still be at a disadvantage compared to a local candidate.
Alternatively, if you are willing to relocate there, most firms in the Middle East are also fine with English only.
Best,
Francesco
Hi there,
I can second the other comments. If you are looking for a consulting job in the EU where English is sufficient and local language optional you are basically left with Sweden, Finland or Denmark.
Other areas where English is the primary language for business (outside of native English speaking countries) are the Middle East or Singapore.

Hi there,
The only other region that comes to mind would be the Nordics but without a strong connection and referral, it could be tricky, especially in current times.
If you want to work internationally, check out the Middle East.
Cheers,
Florian
