Hi there -- here are a few quick tips to get you started:

  1. Start with a simple outline (e.g., intro, why you're a strong candidate, why this firm and office, closing) for a one-page cover letter
  2. Go beyond your resume to tell your story and link your skills to the competencies that the firm is looking for with examples
  3. Weave in specifics about the firm/office from your research and networking, linking it to how a given firm is a good fit for you
  4. Ensure the document looks professional (e.g., error-free, consistent formatting, clean headers/signature block)

Feel free to reach out about a cover letter and resume review session.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

A few general tips for any cover letter:

1. Keep it succinct and effective - one page.

2. You can start with a brief intro about your background - experience and education and why you are interested in the role. It should not be a story but any nugget of information that makes you stand out from other candidates may be fine. Save the story for the fit interview.

3. Body of the cover letter should cover your key skill sets relevant to the rule and list them in bullets. Go through the job descriptions and add some relevant key words from the posting in the cover letter, so your cover letter is tailored to what they are looking for.

4. At the end or in the introduction paragraph, you can add if you have networked with anyone in the company and what you found exciting.

Essence is to keep it brief, highlight your experience/key skill sets that make you a good fit for the role and content should be in bullets.

HR is reading hundreds of cover letters. You want to keep it brief and professional.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you need more help.

Thanks,

Soh

ChatGbt generally provides a pretty good first draft, uploading to it your CV and detailed job description, which you can then refine based on the job's keywords and your specific experience you want to highlight. There really is no reason to spend time doing the first draft of a cover letter as it can be dedicated to more value add activities - get a first draft from ChatGbt and refine/personalise from there.
