Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, this seems to be the standard email confirming receipt of the referral.
  • Moreover, as the email states, the recruiting department will contact you once they have reviewed your application. So there is nothing for you to do except to prepare thoroughly for the most likely upcoming interviews.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there,

The mail you got is the standard referral email which is basically acknowledging receipt of your referral. So good job on getting this done, it's a great first step.

The process now is that the recruiting team will screen your CV and profile and if they feel it meets the bar of their requirements AND have availability for the role you were referred to, then they will reach out.

The role being closed just means it is not being opened to new applications at the moment, and it could be that your application got in before that closure.

So the recruiting team will reach out soon with a decision and possible next steps!

Wishing you all the best!!

The next steps for you can be found in the email:

"should we have a role that matches your skills and experience, we will contact you regarding next steps"

This means they will contact you if they think there is a match/would like you to proceed with the interview process.

Hi there,

Q: They will get in touch with me? Or i need to reply to this mail?

This seems the standard acknowledgement after a referral submission. If you have a good connection with the person referring you, you can follow up to let that person know you received the email and ask if they recommend any further steps (this might lead the person to check the status with HR). Otherwise, you can just wait to hear back from HR.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi, it seems your profile has been added to McKinsey’s talent pool through the referral process, which is quite common; even if the specific role you applied for is now closed, they may consider you for other matching opportunities, so there’s no need to worry or reply immediately unless you want to express your thanks or confirm your continued interest—if you do reply, a short note acknowledging the email and reiterating your enthusiasm is perfectly fine, and once they find a role that fits, you can expect them to reach out with details on the next steps, which typically involve further interviews focusing on your background, achievements, and motivations. Best, Alessa

Hey,

It seems that you've applied for / been referred to a position that has now been closed. That means they'll possibly contact you when the suitable position comes up (or not).

The main takeaway for you is that you shouldn't get hung up on one firm and apply to many different T1/T2/T3 companies in the region.

Good luck!
Nick

Hi there,

It's time to start prepping for the interviews and the Solve Game.

While the application is under screening and you don't know the outcome yet (standard email), you want to be 80% ready (ideally) with your prep once the potential interview invitation comes.

All the best,

Florian
