Preparation for a talk with McK Phone (SOON)

Receivd McK HR expreienced hire email that they want to schedule a call coming week for a chat about my motivation and interests. Meanwhile, they will introduce the Firm and opportunities.

Questions to experienced former Mck and successful candidates:
(1) To prep my motivation and interests: what are the key values or special characters they look for? Leadership for sure I know. What els? Diplomatic, stakeholders management skill? Expertise in certain area?

(2) What can I expect in this call as I am contacted by experienced hire? Would it be possible to discuss on the potential fit-in in terms of functions, e.g. join for traditional consulting (industries/functions), or for Mck new venture or Mck digital ...

(3) Is it usual for Mck to provide 3 months for strong candidate to prep for the first official interview?

Thank you and look forward to hearing from successful experience!

Hi,

1) They ask:

  • A story about yourself (walk them through your resume)
  • Why Consulting
  • Why McKinsey
  • Stories (Depending on the country the may or may not ask them by the phone (Leadership, Personal Impact, Entrepreneurial Drive. In some offices they ask Achievement instead of drive)
  • Your questions to the interviewer

2) You can discuss it on the call, however, by that moment you should already know the domain you are applying to. Digital and New Ventures have different recruiters and if you are interviewing for a generalist the interviewer might not help you. It makes sense to clarify the role with HR prior to the interview.

3) At that moment they don't know whether you are strong or not. They can provide 3 months if they don't have an urgent need in your experience (some domains like Implementation often have immediate needs)

Best!
