McKinsey London

Hi team,

Just reaching out again. I applied early December for an Associate Role. I understand the London office was closed until around mid-January.

My application is still in progress, I did the game and survery in January.

Is this unusual, when is the recruiting process likely to pick up again?

Thanks!

Cam

Hey Cam,

The short answer is: no, this is not unusual.

Consulting timelines for feedback can range up to 2 months even. I have coachees from the London McKinsey office that had waited between 2-3 weeks and 2-3 months to get feedback on next steps.

Let's hope yours doesn't get into the 'many months' territory.

It would be good to politely and professionally follow up with recruiting so that you can align your expectations with their communication schedule

All the best!

Hi Cam,

I am in the exact same boat.

Applied for Associate position in December, got invited to the Solve game in early January, took the test (which went well) in mid-January, and have not heard back anything from them. Status on the Dashboard since game finishing day is "Submitted - In Progress".

Took the advice of an expert here and reached out with a polite email to the HR a week ago. Got a reply from them saying that they would let me know before the 12th of February.

An observation: I saw a few roles (Consultant, Business Analyst) being posted on LinkedIn and the McKinsey careers website for London these past few weeks. I am hoping that they are waiting for the total pool of applicants to take the Solve test, shortlist applicants from it, and then start scheduling R1 interviews. Hope this helps.

P.S. - Did they reply to your follow-up email?

Hi there, thanks Vikram. Sounds like we are in the same boat...I haven't heard back yet, but I know they're busy. Please could you advise the email address, you used? Thanks, Cam

Hi Cam, sure. I wrote to "micha_zawadzinska@mckinsey.com" which was the email address mentioned in the invitation to the Solve game. If your invitation email has another ID, feel free to contact them. Else, you can reach out to Micha who replied to me the following day. Hope this helps! If you hear anything, do post. And I shall do the same, of course.

Hi Cameron,

Based on my experience, it seems they are late. I would advise to send a polite follow-up email.

Hi all, thank you for your kind replies.

I just sent an email yesterday, may I know the best email to use for the London office?

Thanks,

Cam

Thanks all, just so you know - I followed up two days ago and got no response. I guess it's a no! Thanks all, for your input.

Hi Cam, thanks for reaching out. It's not unusual for the process to take a bit longer, especially considering the London office was closed until mid-January and holiday schedules often impact timelines; from my experience, such delays are common, so I’d recommend waiting a little longer or following up politely if needed—please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions.

I heard back today, and it was a rejection, unfortunately. Good luck to everyone! I'm going to continue consulting with my small firm and look for other avenues of opportunity.

Hi Cam, sorry to hear that. Even I noticed on my application dashboard that my application has been moved to the "Previous applications" section. The "Open applications" section is blank. But no email yet. Is this is a rejection?

Hi there,

Info from my clients is that first round interviews are already scheduled for next week.

I'd definitely follow up at this point.

Fingers crossed!
