Initial Screening with BCG X

I have my initial screening with BCG X for an analyst role next week. What should I be expecting? And what should I prepare for? And would could be my possible next rounds I can start preparing for? I really want to crack this interview and any tips of resources would be helpful.

Hi,

The initial screening consists of a short intro call to get to know each other and test your main motivation. Prepare an answer on questions (e.g., present yourself, why BCG X, why this office, main strength). The screening is followed by interview rounds, each consisting of 2 interviews. I recommend start preparing 3-6 months before the first interview to have sufficient time to master the skills required to ace the interview.

Feel free to schedule a 15m free intro call for further info.

Hello there!
First of all, congratulations for the screening call, a big step already!
If this is the first screening, not the actual case interview, it should be a behavioral-like call to check your motivations and fit to the role. You would start with a 1-2min elevator pitch about yourself, followed by questions from the recruiter. Be prepared for questions such as:

  • "why BCG X?",
  • "why do you want to become a consultant",
  • "walk me through your resumé".

Be ready to make it like a (structured) conversation, and to deep dive in some of the topics of your CV. It is important for you to bring questions for which the answers cannot be found online.

Next rounds would be the case interviews (2-3 interviews per round, about 2 rounds). They comprise both the case as the behavioral interview.

I would recommend for you to start studying now, as if you had passed this first call. If you do (you will, fingers crossed!) the case interview may be schedule in a short amount of time.

If you would like to increase your personal chances of getting an offer, I would be glad to help you preparing for the case and behavioral interviews! Feel free to DM me to book a 20-min alignment call where we can discuss your situation and create a solid study plan. 💪

Best,

Mari

Hey there 😊

Congrats on landing the screening—BCG X is such an exciting space right now! For the initial call, you can expect a mix of fit and background questions, often by HR or a recruiter. They'll typically check for:

Motivation: Why BCG X? Why this role? Why now?
🧠 Technical alignment: Very high-level overview of your skill set (data, product, engineering, etc.—depending on the role)
🎯 Team & collaboration skills: How you work in teams, manage stakeholders, and solve problems
📍Logistics: Availability, preferred location, salary expectations, etc.

Next rounds? If you pass the screening, you’ll likely face:

  1. Case interviews (usually product / digital-focused or analytics-heavy depending on role)
  2. Technical assessments or live exercises
  3. Possibly final round interviews with senior team members or Principals

How to prep now:

  • Brush up on your BCG X knowledge: check recent press releases, blog posts, projects
  • Review product strategy, user journey, MVP thinking or data pipeline / analytics problem solving (depending on role)
  • Prepare examples of working cross-functionally & driving impact

Let me know what specific role you're applying for and I’m happy to tailor the prep advice even more! Rooting for you 💪

Best,
Alessa 🚀

Hi there,

Congrats on landing the screening interview - that’s already a strong step forward.

BCG X roles are a bit different from traditional BCG consulting, so tailoring your prep to their hybrid model is key. Here's a breakdown of what to expect and how to prepare, with actionable tips at each step.

The first round is typically with a recruiter or junior consultant and aims to assess:

  • Fit and motivation: Why BCG X? Why this role? Why you?
  • Basic technical understanding: Depending on your role (e.g., data, product, design, strategy), you may get light technical or business logic questions.
  • Behavioral fit: They'll want to see if you align with BCG’s and BCG X’s values - collaboration, innovation, and impact.

Have a tight, 2–3 minute “Tell me about yourself” answer that ties your background directly to BCG X’s focus on innovation and digital transformation.

If you pass screening (which is mainly a formality), here’s what’s usually next:

  • Case and technical interviews: Case interview with a more technical focus depending on your stream.
  • Fit interviews: Pretty much standard consulting fit interviews.
  • Likely packaged in 2 rounds with 2-3 interviews each (each interview having fit+case).

Cheers,

Florian
