I got referral from a person on LinkedIn for the Business Analyst position at McKinsey & Company. However, it has been two days since that person submitted my referral, and I haven’t received an email from the company to apply. How long does it usually take to receive the email?

Hi there,

The timing for receiving an email after a referral can vary, but generally, McKinsey takes anywhere from a few days to a week to review and send the application link. It’s possible they are still processing referrals or checking the internal systems for alignment with your profile.

If it’s been more than a week and you haven't heard anything, it’s okay to follow up with the person who referred you. You can politely ask if there’s anything further needed from your side or if they could check in with HR for an update.

Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you need more advice!

Hey there,

This is now a systems and process issue. At best, I've experienced this taking a day to get an email, and at worst 2 weeks. However, I know other cases that have taken longer.

If nothing comes within a week, ask your referral to follow up with recruiting so that it can be pushed forward

All the best

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, it can take a few days to a couple of weeks for McKinsey to process referrals and send out application links. The timeline varies depending on the office and their workload.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to politely follow up with the person who referred you if you don’t hear back after a week.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey!

It typically takes a few days to a week for McKinsey’s recruitment team to process a referral and send you the application link. The delay could be due to internal processing or timing within their recruitment cycle. If you don’t hear back within a week, it’s perfectly fine to politely follow up with your referrer or the recruiting team to confirm the status. Stay patient—referrals often take time!

Alessa :)
