Consulting salary - Singapore

Hi,

I've recently come to Singapore for my masters and have been interviewing for various consulting roles. One common question I get asked is what my salary expectation is. Its really tough to answer since I'm new here. Each time I counter question what their budget for the role is, but they keep asking what number I have in mind.

Can someone help with the salary expectation for a consultant with 2-3 years of work experience in Singapore? I've previously worked in India but the salary cannot be compared to that. I'm currently completing my masters in one of the top universities in Singapore.

Hi there,

This is exactly why it's incredibly important to do your research before you begin interviews. You need to know what role you're applying for, what expectations are, and how the company operates.

We need more information on the companies you're applying to in order to better advise.

An undergrad + Master's consultant salary in Singapore is about S$90k.

An MBA grad consultant salary in Singapore is about S$145k.

This will vary by company etc., but this should give you a guide. Please make sure to do your research beforehand now! The best way to find out is to network with people at the firm. Additionally, Managementconsulted, Fishbowl, and Blink are all good resources for salaries.

I guess you are looking for a better answer than coaches suggesting to check glassdoor. Here's some tips:

  1. Get in touch with the career office of your university and ask them to advise. They can also put you in touch with some alums who work live & work in Singapore
  2. Reach out to active coaches on PrepLounge based in that region. Run a filter here by location- https://www.preplounge.com/en/case-interview-experts.php
  3. Get your profile/CV reviewed as its impossible to tell based on your post. Salaries will vary a lot depending on you target companies- MBB or BIG4 or Accenture etc
  4. Singapore is a low tax country but very expensive. Salaries typically tend to be near or comfortably in 6 figures in Consulting even at Associate/Consultant/Senior Consultant level

Hello!

I imagine wtih INSEAD, congrats! I am sure you will love the experience.

The classical 1st shot at this is checking Glassdoor, at least for the oder of maginited. However, given the detail needed, since they totally depend on the office/region, it will be difficult that you find insightful answers.

I would recommend you to use this as an opportunity for networking, and you will kill two birds with one stone.

Furthermore, INSEAD should have plenty of this resources for you to leverage.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the career progression so far!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, I would highly advise you to get in touch with employees of your target companies, politely ask them for a coffee chat and properly time your compensation questions in there. This way, you will get a lot of useful information for your upcoming applications either way. They are also most probably the only people who are able to tell you for sure.
  • Still, compensation normally is about SGD90K for undergrads and Master's student and SGD150K for MBA grads.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best network with employees of your potential future employer, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hello there,

In order to get an idea of salaries for different companies, take a look at glassdoor. It's the best way to get information and they are usually quite reliable (at least for big offices).

Hope it helps,
Luca

Hi,

Sharing a perspective from someone who has worked in Singapore/SEA.

At MBB and most T2s - the salaries are standard and you will not get asked salary expectations at the post-MBA level.

Happy to give more benchmarks from my own MBB experience and my network in T2 - just drop me a dm.
