Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Contrary to what other coaches have said, no, ultimately you can only have one referral, not multiple.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

Yes, multiple people can give you a referral for McKinsey. Having referrals from different individuals, especially those at senior levels, can strengthen your application. Each referral adds credibility and increases your chances of getting noticed by recruiters.

However, it's important to ensure that the referrals come from people who know you well and can vouch for your skills and potential.

Hello,

Yes, McKinsey allows multiple referrals for a candidate, and it can strengthen your application if both referrers provide unique insights about you. Ensure they know about each other’s referral to avoid overlap, but remember that your performance in the recruitment process will be the deciding factor.

Hi there,

To answer your question shortly: Yes two employees can refer the same person,

However, there is limited added benefit to having two employees refer you, as the recruiting team will only consider one of them, usually the one who refers you first or the more senior,

Hope this answers your question,

Best,
Fady

Hey there,

Yes, two people can refer one candidate, however if you pass screening, only one will be having the access to follow your recruiting journey (from a system point of view)

You'd rather the more senior person refer you to increase your chances of progression

Yes, it is possible for two people to refer the same candidate at McKinsey. However, typically, one referral is sufficient for the application process. It’s important that both referrers communicate clearly with the recruitment team to avoid any confusion or duplication. If you're unsure, it's a good idea to check with the individuals offering the referral to make sure everything aligns with McKinsey’s internal policies.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Q: Can two persons give referral for one candidate at Mckinsey?

When you apply to a consulting company, normally you can have only one referral reported in the internal system. However, a second person can still drop your name to HR and provide an “unofficial” referral.

Good luck!

Yes, technically, two people can refer the same candidate at McKinsey. However, it's generally not necessary and might not add significant value. McKinsey typically values a referral from one strong connection within the firm, so having multiple referrals won't necessarily improve your chances unless each person has a unique, meaningful insight or connection to highlight. It's best to focus on the quality of the referral rather than quantity.

Hi there,

In the system, no. Directly to HR, yes. :-)

I got referral from a person on LinkedIn for the Junior Associate position at McKinsey & Company. However, it has been two days since that person submitted my referral, and I haven’t received an email from the company to apply. How long does it usually take to receive the email?
