BCG Expert track

Does someone know how the career tenures work in the BCG Expert track? I'm in the process of interviewing for them and would like to understand the career trajectory if I should join. There were a couple of similar posts, but only referring to the generalist consulting track.

Hi there,

First of all that's a great question to ask at the end of your interviews (people tend to wonder what they should ask at the end). Also a great networking question.

Generally, the expert track is quite similar to the generalist track. That said, the trajectory is a bit slower, evaluated a bit differently, and making partner is a bit rarer.

Another option is to just stay on the generalist track, but naturally become an expert in that same area, without taking on the expert title (when you think about it, this happens naturally anyway!)

My recommendation is to not lock yourself into this yet and just keep doors option. Once you're at the firm you can spend a few months networking and talking to people to see what makes more sense for you! (That's exactly what I did during my internship for example to figure out if I wanted to go GAMMA, Platinion, DV, or stay generalist)

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on being invited by BCG!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, the levels in the expert track are the same as in the general track yet with slightly different title names. While I do not exactly know about the career trajectory, it seems to be slightly less steep as in the general track (cf. BCG experts profiles on LinkedIn). I would advise you to either ask the recruiter or your interviewers (in case you still have interviews ahead of you).
  • To be honest, if you would have asked me before applying, I would have advised you to apply for the general consulting track instead of the expert track for the simple reason that you can equally specialize as a general consultant yet with a slightly steeper career trajectory.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on your current career options, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi,

There are significant differences between Expert Track and Generalist Track, especially the more senior you become.

Happy to have a chat with anyone who is interested in this - just drop me a dm.

Hello!

Unfortunately i cannot help you with this question.

However, it´s the classical perfect quesiton to ask after the interviews, in those 5 mins that you have to make questions and connect with the interviewer

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara
