BCG Application status

Hi everyone. Around 3 weeks ago I applied to BCG and I got a referral from a senior associate. I also contacted a recruiter I met during a recruitment event, letting her know that I was about to apply, and the associate who referred me also passed my CV to the same recruiter a bit before applying.

The recruiter thanked me for the email and told me she will review my application and get back to me.

I just went to the career website and saw that my application status is: Application Not Selected. I haven't looked at the application status page before, so I don't know if that was the status beforehand or if this was an update. Hence, I am confused whether this means my application is rejected (i did not get any automated rejection email), or does it mean it just hasn't been reviewed yet?

In case it hasn't been reviewed yet, should I email the recruiter asking about my application status?

I would appreciate any advice on what to do in this situation. Thank you!

How to Break Into MBB 101: Mastering the Interview (Ex-McKinsey EM with 5+ years of consulting interviewing experience)

Hey there! It sounds like you’re in a bit of a confusing spot. Based on what you’ve shared, it’s hard to say for sure if the “Application Not Selected” status means your application was rejected or if it’s just not been reviewed yet.

Here’s what you can do: It’s perfectly fine to send a polite follow-up email to the recruiter. You can express your continued interest and ask for a quick update on your application status. Since you’ve already made contact and have a referral, a friendly nudge should be well-received.

Just keep your email brief and positive, acknowledging that you saw the status update and are keen to learn more about your application’s progress. This way, you stay proactive and engaged without seeming pushy. Best of luck!

Thank you for your help! That same day i sent out an email to the recruiter, asking for an update on my application, but the recruiter hasn't responded yet. This was 5 days ago and I am wondering whether I should wait a few more days and follow up, or just leave it at that.

Hi,

Definitely reach out to the recruiter to clarify your status.

This is a fair question to ask a recruiter politely for clarification

Hi there,

Unfortunately, this sounds like the resume did not make the cut. However, to be 100% certain I'd either write your HR contact or the consultant who referred you.

All the best,

Florian

Also i am wondering whether I should ask the consultant who referred me if he has any information? I was a bit surprised by this because I expected that I'd at least be invited to the first round of interviews. Now in hand sight, I'm wondering if i might have been banned from applying, because I did apply for an internship a bit less than a year ago, so maybe they have some automatic ban on my profile?

Hi, I’m in a similar situation as you (no rejection emails). Have you received any response from them?
