BCG Application

Hello,

I am applying  to BCG Nigeria and wanted to know what role to apply to between a Business Analyst vs Associate position.. There is a Business Analyst Role, where you go in as an intern and then become an Associate.

The Associate position is also an entry level role but requires an advanced degree ( either an MBA or a Masters degree) which I have.

For Background:

I have an undergraduate degree in  Economics and a Masters degree in Economics and Strategy for Business from Imperial College where I obtained a pass grade. I also have previous consulting experience in consulting projects and project management and I am currently studying for a Project Management Professional Qualification.

Thank you. I hope to get some good advice.

Typically, if you have an MBA, or PhD or 5y of relevant work experience, you go in as a Consultant for BCG.

Otherwise, you start as an Associate (entry level).

Some geographies have intermediary roles to account for situations such as yours e.g., Senior Associate.

My recommendation would be to reach out to the Lagos office and problem solve this directly with the recruiter.

They will be able to give you a tailored answer and then you have the certainty that you are interviewing and preparing for the right role.

In parallel, make sure that you apply to other firms as well and have similar conversations with their recruiters.

You seem well-qualified for the Associate position at BCG Nigeria given your masters degree and prior consulting experience, but I cannot opine precisely before seeing your resume.

As you apply, focus on tailoring your resume and cover letter, preparing strong achievement examples.

Wishing you the best with your application! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there,

Q: Wanted to know what role to apply to between a Business Analyst vs Associate position.

From what you shared, you fit the requirements for the Associate position, thus I would apply for that role.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Go for the Associate role. If this does not fit, HR will notify you anyway and offer you to apply for the other position (unlikely).

Cheers,

If you have 3 years of work experience, you can apply to the more senior position. If they think it's not the right one for you but enjoy your profile, they'll ask if you're ok with the other role (to be honest, the same logic applies the other way around).

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • The decision whether to apply for an internship or a full-time position should depend primarily on whether you are convinced that consulting is a good long-term fit for your career, which is something only you can assess for yourself.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen
