Bain First Round, Might have COVID?

I have a first round with Bain (I think this is their 2nd cycle of AC undergrad recruiting so timeline might be very structured?) but my roommate has come down with something that resembles the flu/COVID and I’m feeling very under the weather. I’m not sure if I should reach out and try to reschedule just in case my performance is harmed by my circumstance. What should I do?

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your health situation!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, I would highly advise you to contact the Bain recruiter as soon as possible to inform them of your current health condition and to inquire about postponing the interviews.
  • Moreover, however, and contrary to what other coaches have said, as you have indicated that you are applying for/living in the USA, I doubt that it will be possible to postpone the interviews by a large, as they are held in a specific time frame.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

If you feel sick, your performance will suffer. You want to be at your best. If you still feel sick tomorrow, reach out to them and ask if a reschedule is possible. You can be upfront with your reason - feeling sick, and not sure you'll be at 100% on the interview day.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

It’s unlikely you’ll be able to perform optimally if you’re feeling ill, so I think you should reach out to the recruiting team asap explaining your situation and checking feasibility of rescheduling. Ideally, they should let you know how flexible they can be in this recruiting cycle.

All the best,

Fathu

Hi there,

I hope you feel better but if you don’t, it is better to try to reschedule and preserve your chance. If you are suffering from flu symptoms, you are too impaired to do well during the interviews. I’m assuming your first round is an online interview format. Because if it is not, you really should not show up to in person interviews sick and infect others.

Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery

Hi there,

First of all, I hope you get better soon!

Second, call and ask to reschedule. Unlikely they will say no!

Fingers crossed,

Florian

I had my online zoom fit interview with a BCGer as part of the first round. During the first question, the interviewer deliberately asked me 4-5 follow-up questions from the story. They were genuine questions but also felt somewhat deliberate. Is that normal or common?
