Application Under Review | BCG Associate Experienced Hire - USA

Hi there,

As the title says, I applied to the following role at BCG:
Associate, Experienced Hire - USA

I applied on the 31st of January. About a week after submitting the application, the portal said my application is under review. We are now nearing the end of February and the application status remains the same.

I know this is a non-cyclical role and hence may be a little irregular in its acquisition of talent, but does this time delay mean they are not hiring at the moment or that they aren't interested in my application?

I would love your advice and guidance.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

Hey there 🙂, it's not uncommon for non-cyclical roles like the Associate Experienced Hire at BCG to have longer review periods, so your application remaining "under review" since January likely just reflects their thorough process rather than a lack of interest—if you're feeling uncertain, a polite follow-up could provide some clarity, but overall, try not to worry too much. Best, Alessa 😊

Hi there,

At this time, I am seeing delays and slower hiring across the board. In itself, this does not mean anything positive or negative - you are still in the run.

Fingers crossed for a positive screening and then on to the interviews!

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

nothing unusual I would say. Might also be that they are waiting for further candidates for that specific role to then kick off the interviewing. That would give them a better comparability and a bigger pool to chose from.

I would send them a nice mail (or even better call them) and politely ask for the current status. Always good to show some proactivity.

Best,
Sebastian

Hi there,

The timeline is pretty common, wouldn't be overly stressed about it. If they are not hiring they would take down the job post usually. If they've reached a conclusion you should've received either a turndown or next steps communication. Typically the initial screening time can take anywhere between weeks to months, and the status in the system can be confusing/not indicative of what's really going on. Would just be patient to wait, keep applying for other firms to get the momentum going, and meanwhile get ready so when interviews are scheduled you are also well-prepared :)

Once an HR reaches out, that's when you are able to follow up if further delays occurs in the interview process.

Best of luck!

Han

Hi there,

Q: Does this time delay mean they are not hiring at the moment or that they aren't interested in my application?

There might be multiple reasons for the delay - one is that they are not hiring, but it could also be due to other reasons. I would recommend calling HR and asking for an update on your application.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, I would highly advise you not to overthink the situation. If your application is still under review, you have not been rejected and there is a specific hiring need.
  • Moreover, If you want to try, you can contact the recruiter to inquire about the timeline, although I think they will not be able to provide much detail.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

No one here can really tell you the real answer. I would suggest to follow up with HR/recruiting if possible.

The good news is that as long as you have not been rejected, you are theoretically still 'in the running'.

All the best!

Hey there,

Waiting times within recruiting processes can be quite lengthy! Much lengthier than what we'd usually like. It's not uncommon for the waiting time to be between 2-3 months before getting a response

There are many reasons why the time could have taken this long, and many of them may have nothing to do with your actual candidacy.

My recommendation is to keep practicing, consider applying to other firms, not speculate too much, follow up proactively (and professionally and politely) and then wait for feedback from the team when it comes

All the best! :-)

Hi,

At the current economic situation, recruiting are a bit slow and we see this around the world.
Therefore I wouldn’t read too much into that. It is hard to know what is going on in the background and you have no control over it. Just focus on what you have control and prepare well for the interview.

Good luck!
Emily
