Great question! The last few minutes of an interview are a golden opportunity. Don’t waste them on something generic like “No, I think we covered everything.” Instead, use this time to leave a strong final impression and show that you’re genuinely interested in the role and the company. And address any questions that weren’t addressed yet and that are important to you.

Here are a few great questions to consider:

  • “What excites you the most about the firm’s direction over the next few years?”
  • “How has [Company Name] adapted to industry changes recently, and what challenges do you see ahead?”
  • “Can you tell me about the team I’d be working with? What’s the working style like here?”
  • “What made you choose to work here, and what keeps you excited about the job?”
  • “What kind of person tends to be really successful here?”

It’s always a good idea to prepare 2-3 thoughtful questions in advance. Remember interviews are a two-way street. You’re not just trying to impress them; you’re also figuring out if they are the right fit for you. Good luck!

Rita already named a few great ones and I will just continue by sharing the ones that come to my mind:

  • What kind of deals or projects has the team been working on recently?

  • How do junior bankers typically get staffed, and what does the day-to-day look like for an intern or analyst

  • What’s unique about the team culture here compared to other groups or banks?

  • What qualities make someone successful in this role?

  • What’s one thing you wish you had known when you started your career in IB (or specific industry)?

  • How do analysts and associates here typically develop over time? What kind of opportunities do they get?

  • How do you see [specific industry] evolving in the next few years?

  • What market trends do you think will have the biggest impact on investment banking in the near future?

  • Is there anything about my background that I could clarify or expand on?

  • What are the next steps in the process?

Hope this helps!
