Previous application history was deleted

Hi, I applied to McK last year and got 2 year ban after the rejection. Today I see that my previous application history is removed from the Dashboard, so does it mean that the ban is lifted?

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the rejection from McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, unless you have been told otherwise, the ban period at almost all consulting firms is typically 12-18 months.
  • Moreover, I would highly advise you not to read anything into it, and no one can seriously answer the question of whether or not there is any deeper meaning to deleting your application history. Instead, contact the recruiter and ask about the ban period.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey applications, pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi, the removal of your previous application history from the dashboard is likely just a system update rather than an indication that the ban has been lifted; normally application history must be deleted after some time, so this is normal —please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions. Best, Alessa

The only way to ascertain with certainty - would be to check with recruiting/HR.

Better to be on the clear side of the rules and get a formal clearance, instead of trying to be sneaky about applying and later get flagged (in case the application data still exists in the database and just doesn't show up on your dashboard)

Hi there,

Did they tell you specifically that there will be a 2-year application ban.

This differs across regions/countries and in the EU it's usually less (at least 12 months).

I'd directly talk to HR/your recruiting contact about it.

All the best,

Florian

Hey there,

There could be many reasons behind this, including the fact that the history is not "deleted" - but it's just not showing due to system refresh etc. and the details from your last application are still there

We can speculate a lot on this, and really that won't be too helpful. :-) It would be best practice to engage with the recruiting team and ask about your application eligibility information so you can align your understanding accordingly

All the best!

Hey,

Probably just a system thing and not a ban lift.
In order to reapply, you'll need to demonstrate some new relevant experience on your CV and get a strong referral. I suggest you focus on that while applying to other firms in the meantime.

Good luck!
Nick
