McKinsey Solve - Ecosystem building & Redrock study

In McKinsey Solve test Ecosystem building, what is the survival rule ?

- Does 1 specie survive if the calories needed are 0 (is able to eat sufficiently)

- or if the calories needed are 0 and the calories provided are >0 in the ecosystem built

In heard the plant defense game was replaced by the redrock study. Did anyone take it recently ? How many mini cases can one expect ? Is it necessary to complete the full study to pass the test ?

Hi there,

1) Does 1 specie survive if the calories needed are 0 (is able to eat sufficiently) or if the calories needed are 0 and the calories provided are >0 in the ecosystem built

In order for an ecosystem to be sustainable, calories needed should be zero and calories provided above zero for all the species selected.

2) I heard the plant defense game was replaced by the redrock study. Did anyone take it recently?

Plant Defense has been replaced by Redrock in 2023, so it is no longer used.

3) How many mini cases can one expect ? Is it necessary to complete the full study to pass the test ?

Currently there are 6 cases at the end of Redrock. You might pass also if you don’t complete all of them.

Hi there,

1+2) Yes, a species survives if it gets all the calories needed and the calorie provider >0 calories left

Red Rock replaced Plant Defense in March 2023. It consists of two parts and you should answer all questions in the current recruiting environment to have a strong chance to move to the interviews.

1. Second option, i.e. calories needed should be zero but provided should be above zero.

2. Plant defense game was indeed replaced.

3. Not required to complete the full study (but ideally you do).
