Last year, some professors and I started to design a new study program. I had to do plenty of feasibility studies. Still, in the short time from creating this plan to the first decision on whether or not to continue, it was impossible to acquire all the essential information on legal circumstances and achievable time frames. Still, to make the first recommendation, I evaluated all gathered data and made assumptions about the points not collected yet. I presented my advice to the group and communicated the process of analysis and assumptions.

During my research project i need to reach a final conclusion without having all facts due to limited time and resources. To do this I prioritize the most important factors to measure and make reasonable assumptions for the rest of the parameters based on available literature.

This happens far too happen in real consulting that you might think. So this is a very practical question.

In such scenarios, one option could be to triangulate the answer to the best possible extent. Try to think scenario from the past where you worked with a hypothesis and then what could be the secondary sources you could have used to triangulate that hypothesis.

During an internship, the time constraint prevented us from making an exhaustive analysis, so I applied a test and lear strategy and made assumptions.

This is how I got a first glimpse into the hypothesis-driven approach.

During beamtime we had to quickly decide a measurement route for an experiment, although not all parameters were clear. Still, the time is only limited and, hence, fast decisions have to be made.

I would keep the recommendation in advantage of the client as good as possible without letting room for any risk or damage.
