“What you do is who you are” :) so, I would definitely go with the second one. Work in my opinion is what makes a human human. Of course, you need to learn to appreciate life outside of work – but I feel that one can do it only if one lives a fulfilling professional life (be it a dancer, a strategy consultant or an origami teacher).

I can say that I do work to live, because the results of it can improve many other unrelated to work aspects of my life, but I would also say that work is a part of my life, so I would also be living by working

Tbh, I think this is a false dilemma. You actually don't have to choose between the 2 options given. You can have a totally different answer that is more true to yourself, and there is no right or wrong answer.

To me I probably would say something along the line that I live to achieve meaningful things, of which work is a big part but also not the only part, e.g. there are still family, friendship, and social impact work out there...

Also remember that interview assessment goes both ways. If you are asked this question and you sense that the interviewer wants you to commit all your time only to work, you might want to evaluate whether that culture is fit for you or not.

Living with a good salary

First of all, i would separate both aspects, even though they are inevitably connected somehow. The reason is, that i would definitely not only work to survive, because this would lead to a job without intrinsic motivation. On the other side, i do not like the idea of only being alive to have time to work.

I am convinced, that a fulfilling life is only possible, when both - private and work life - independent contribute to satisfaction. I really love working, because i always try to work on things, that really matter and have an impact on the long run.

None of both, i enjoy learning and working, but living has some other aspects like family and friends as well. My live is for living, but a big part of it is working, and i like this part.

Hybrid of both, but if I had to choose, I would choose work to live

Hi A,

Sometimes it's a combination of both. But I personally prefer enjoy living, and for living I might need to do some work.

Best,

André

We work to live. Because we need a reason to feel productive however we still need to focus on other things than just work as well

Work is a part of the life and I live to work because work should fulfill in a way a person and the person should be able to follow their own path through work.

I live to work, but it is crucial to me to keep a healthy work life balance in the long run. in short going the extra mile is totally fine and enjoyable as long as it ain't every day

This question is not a Option A or Option B question for me, but rather a balanced mix of both. While I love to move projects forwards and enjoy single steps during my work I also enjoy to travel and see other things than work in the office

Both is the case.

As an entrepreneur, live and work merges and that is not necessarily bad, but rewarding.
I like working, so I live to work but I also work to live to afford my life now and in the future.

Both. You work so that you can gain access to resources that make it possible to live the life you desire. But you are also alive to contribute to society in some way and that requires work.

I would tell the truth. I want a career that makes this question irrelevant. I love everything about strategy consulting, and unless something changes, it is the primary activity I intend to do during my days for the foreseeable future. I don’t see a separation between my work and my life, as I want to strike a balance where both are integrated with each other and equally contribute to my happiness.

This question is hard to answer since it assumes a exclusive duality between work and life. I work and I live at the same time as I believe they are complementary to each other. Through Intensive work I get to celebrate the result and personal growth, which motivates me to further development.

I think its important to find the balance between work and life. Neglecting social life next to work is bad for your mind, which negatively affects life and work. However, neglecting work next to social life is also a bad idea.

Its all about balance and priorities.
