Importance of CFA or financial modeling courses for IB
Hello,
maybe someone can help me. I'm considering getting a CFA Level 1 or taking a financial modeling course before recruiting. Are these actually useful for landing an IB role, or is networking and internships more important?
Yeah, I definitely agree with the previous answer.
For landing an IB role, networking and internships are way more important than getting a CFA Level 1 or taking a financial modeling course. Banks mostly care about your experience, how well you can sell yourself, and who you know.
That being said, a CFA Level 1 can show you’re serious about finance and give you a solid foundation, but it’s not a must-have. Same goes for financial modeling courses – they’re great for building your skills and boosting confidence, but most banks will train you on their own models anyway.
If you have the time and interest, it won’t hurt, but definitely focus more on getting relevant internships and building your network – that’s what really gets your foot in the door.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.
I did get a CFA Level 1 and it definitely helped me feel more confident in interviews and on the job. It’s not necessary to land an IB role, but it shows commitment and gives you a good technical base. Networking and internships matter more, but if you have the time, I’d say it’s worth doing.
