Culture at Evercore vs. Moelis

I have final rounds with both Evercore and Moelis and want to understand the culture differences. Which one has better work-life balance, mentorship and long-term career prospects?

Hey there,

Congrats on making it to the final rounds at both Evercore and Moelis. That’s already a huge achievement! I don’t know the cultures at these firms firsthand, but what I always tell my coachees is that the best way to figure out fit is by talking to people on the inside.

Reach out to analysts and associates (ideally ones not involved in your interview process) and ask them candidly about work-life balance, mentorship, and career growth. Pay attention to how they talk about their experience. Do they seem engaged, or just surviving? Also, think about what kind of environment you thrive in and try to imagine yourself in the setting your networking contacts describe.

One thing I also always emphasize: prestige matters less than finding a place where you’ll actually learn, grow, and get solid deal experience. Both firms mentioned can most likely offer that, so listen to what your feeling tells you.

If you need any support on the way, feel free to reach out.

Hey there,
I looked into both when I was recruiting, and from what I gathered, Evercore has a slightly better work-life balance and more structured mentorship, while Moelis is known for its intense, high-expectations culture with lean teams and direct senior exposure.

Exit opps are strong at both, but Evercore seems to place better into megafunds, while Moelis leans more toward mid-market PE and restructuring. If you want a bit more support and structure, Evercore might be the better fit, if you’re up for a grind-heavy, high-responsibility role early on, Moelis could be worth it. Either way, both are great names, just depends on what you’re looking for.
