Why does BCG ask you to take the practice Casey test with the same email you applied with?

Will they somehow use your practice test results in the application?

Hi,

I guess it's to be 100% sure you're the good candidate and facilitate their application system monitoring where they can follow the candidate path via a specific interface.

Cheers,

Hi there,

Q: Will they somehow use your practice test results in the application?

No, that would not make any sense. They most likely just want to be sure that only candidates they send the invitations to have access to the practice case.

You can find 10 key tips to prepare for the test here:

If you want to further prepare for the Online Case, I created a software simulation replicating the Casey chatbot and one-way video interview. You can find it below:

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • First of all, this is just a simple yet effective measure to ensure that the actual BCG Casey pre-interview assessment result is allocated to the right applicant.
  • Moreover, of course, BCG does not assess your performance in any practice tests you may take.
  • Lastly, the BCG Casey pre-interview assessment is essentially a case study that you solve on your own. As such, I would highly advise you to focus your preparation on practicing case studies with peers and on your own, as this is the best way to prepare for it. In case you can get your hands on authentic BCG Casey sets, this could help you further, but I do not see any point in purchasing any guides.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on authentic BCG Casey sets, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Hi there,

this is done for 2 main reasons..

  1. To the uncontrolled spread of practice resources
  2. To conduct data mining and derive (anonymized) insights on candidate behavior, performance and effectiveness of perparation materials. Don't worry, they don't look at practice test results as part of the evaluation.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

They will use the real casey test to evaluate you as a candidate.

They will not use the practice test to evaluate you as a candidate.

For preparing, keep in mind the following:

Honestly, all of these online tests are very similar

Format? Somewhat. Content and what's required from you ability-wise? Essentially the same.

The best way is to really find online tests / questions and practice. Regardless as to whether is a new or old test, the principles are mostly the same:

  • Time management (need to think quick)
  • Business knowledge/context (incl key formulas)
  • Critical thinking (answers that are very similar to each other...clues "hidden" in the text)
  • Ability to interpret data/charts

Think of it as a merge of a case and the GMAT/GRE.

You need to be clear on some key case-related and account formulas (margin, growth, breakeven, etc) as well as be good at critically understanding the question (including nuance to questions) and parsing through complicated text with a fair amount of distraction.

You'll also need to be good at chart/graph reading.

The (old) McKinsey PST, BCG Online Test, Bain SOVA test, etc. are all quite similar so leverage resources across all of them.

Hi there,

No, they won't use the result to judge your performance based on the practice case.

They most likely want to have visibility on who uses the link to make sure only registered candidates do so.

Best,

Cristian
