How would you answer this question in your Personal Fit interview? Receive feedback on your answer and browse through the Q&As to review the approaches of other applicants and experts.
Who are the main competitors of company X?
This question can be two-fold:
- Competitors of consulting company you are interviewing for – then just name them, you probably applied for all of them anyway ;)
- Competitors of any company they name – this question is for sure not asked in MBB, but can be asked in Tier 2-3, so to prepare for that question:
- Make a list of the industries they work in
- Identify biggest companies in your region in those industries – this way you will already know the names once you go into that interview
Hope this helps!
Best,
Daniil
Hello!
On top of the insights already shared in the post, the "Integrated FIT guide for MBB" has been recently published in PrepLounge´s shop (https://www.preplounge.com/en/shop/tests-2/integrated-fit-guide-for-mbb-34)
It provides an end-to-end preparation for all three MBB interviews, tackling each firms particularities and combining key concepts review and a hands-on methodology. Following the book, the candidate will prepare his/her stories by practicing with over 50 real questions and leveraging special frameworks and worksheets that guide step-by-step, developed by the author and her experience as a Master in Management professor and coach. Finally, as further guidance, the guide encompasses over 20 examples from real candidates.
Feel free to PM me for disccount codes, since we still have some left from the launch!
More than the other two top-tier strategic consulting firms, I would say that the competitors are the smaller ones (ex: MBS), as they can potentially steal some market share by their lower fines.
Customer:
Which kind of customers company X has?
Product:
Which kind of products company X sells?
Competitor:
To which segment company X belongs to?
Which region is the main selling areea of compnay?
Company:
Which kind of contribution channels company X has?
The company that can substitute their products or have the same product which has better brand awareness in the market.
Main competitor of X would be the one which has similar product, largest marketshare in same region and often seen as an alternative by consumers or clients.
In case of Inhouse consultancy, what would be the answer?
Do I look for the competitors of the whole company?
I would consider the main competitors to be nurseries in the area as well as private nannies not affiliated with KK.
Your company has the advantage in that…
our main competitors are Tier 1 IT service companies and in some cases product companies, from a Talent acquiring and retention standpoint but from a target market standpoint, our main competitors are the tier 3 IT service companies and even startups in this space
