Hi There,

Fully agree with what Dr. Sidi mentioned above,

Candidates need to understand that consulting is a high turn over industry, and that, on average, 20% of consultants at a certain firm will leave yearly, therefore, there is a continuous need for new hires for firms to avoid lacking seasoned consultants in 5 years time.

Now to answer your question, obviously market needs play a major role in the hiring volume, with some regions doing better than others.

I would say that the market in North America and the Middle East are almost always the most lively,

Hope this answers your question,

Hi there,

A couple of points:

  1. All regions are hiring, just not at the same pace as before.
  2. For excellent candidates with the right background, skills, and some flexibility the doors never really closed. As a result, you need to stand out more at each step of the recruiting funnel and this starts way before the interviews at the networking stage.
  3. Some offices of some firms have frozen hiring until early 2025 but this is not the norm.

As an example, US hiring, especially for McKinsey but also for the others is rather slow this fall due to

  • most interns taking up their return offers over the summer
  • less business activity for the firm

Hence, they are asking international MBA applicants in the U.S. to apply outside of the U.S. (e.g., for the Middle Eastern offices). It's possible to still go for the U.S. positions but there are much fewer offers to be distributed this year, so as mentioned, you really need to stand out or adjust your strategy and find a better fit (e.g., geographically or firm-wise).

Cheers,

Florian

Hmm, right now I have mentees with MBB offers and final rounds in all parts of the world. North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia... So the question would be rather which region is NOT hiring?

Personal note: I find that very often people spread the narrative "Firm XY is not hiring in office ABC" as an emotional shield to feel better about their own rejection or negative feedback received. I cannot even count the number of times when interested candidates told me "I know there is a hiring stop in office xyz" and I had to tell these people that it is untrue, and I have in fact several mentees successfully going through interviews in exactly this office at exactly that time.

Do not follow rumours and hearsay. I you put in a strong application, and then perform stronger than others during the interviews, I don't see a reason why you would not be successful.

Cheers, Sidi

Hi,

Based on my coachees, I can say for sure that Asia / Southeast Asia, Middle East, Europe and North America are hiring. As others have mentioned, all regions are still hiring although the specific demand within each office differs. Best to have a targeted application strategy and network to be smart about it.

All the best!
