Which McKinsey office to apply?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering which McKinsey office is relatively easier to get an offer? We all know that London and New York offices are very difficult and very competitive. So I'm wondering if there is any office less competitive, such as Southeast Asian offices (Indonesia, Malaysia etc) or other places?

Hi Anonymous,

it is true that some offices are more competitive than others, mainly due to demand and supply mismatch. On the other hand, there is always a minimum level of preparation needed and, without that, you won't receive offers whatever the needs in terms of new hires.

In general, growing economies offer more opportunities in that sense (some years ago that was the case for Middle East offices for example); matching together GDP growth and the fact that there is a new office in a region could be a good proxy to identify offices that may have a mismatch between demand and supply.

As a final consideration, you should also keep in mind that many offices require working visa, fluency in the local language and a clear connection with the selected country (previous experiences or family connection) to invite candidates for interviews.

Francesco

Hi,

You should apply to the countries where you can legally work, so not many options are opened for you.

Within the same country, you can select the office that is less competitive (e.g. Atlanta in the US)
