Most of the fit questions would be similar and applicable for all firms. 

What you need to customize would be:

- why the specific company

- why not other firms (or if you get offer from other firms as well, who would you choose)

- make sure you know the basics about what their focus on the particular region/country, what they say about their culture etc.

Serhat already provided a quite complete list of questions; to prioritize, I would concentrate on the following, which tend to be the most common types asked:

• Tell me about yourself (personal overview)
• Why consulting (motivational)
• Why ATK/Strategy& (motivational)
• Give me an example when you led a team (leadership)
• Give me an example when helped the team to achieve its goal (teamwork)
• Tell me about a time when you had to convince someone not agreeing with you (impact)
• What has been your major achievement so far (drive)
• Why should we hire you (motivational)

Although the company that emphasizes more the fit part is McKinsey, following a preparation including the key areas of leadership/teamwork, impact and drive will have you covered for the other consulting companies as well.

The best way to prepare is to complete the following checklist:

2. Identify good stories for each area. Ideally you want to have at least two stories for each area. Three would be even better.
3. Use a structure for your story. I would suggest to use the STARR model (Situation, Task, Action, Rational for Action, Results)
4. Identify for each story one sentence clarifying what the story is about and start with it. Think of it as the title of a journal article.
5. Practice live, collect feedback from people listening to you, reiterate until when you get fluent and convincing

Based on my experience with interviewing at both firms, these are the standard motivational and behavioral questions you would expect at any company. It is smart to have stories on leadership, problem solving, and creativity ready. 

Dear Ghassan,

Adding to everything that has been mentioned before, the fit questions in these interviews are really about story telling. Of course, you will get the typical questions like: Why do you want to be a consultant? Why do you want to work at this firm?

The part the differentiates you will be the “tell me about a time” questions that inevitably take up a large portion of the interviews at these firms. The better you are at telling your stories, the better off you’ll be. And I recommend to make these stories both work related and lifestyle in order to show your skills of being a leader, team player and problem solving person. 

Just remember that answering to any questions like this is your chance to shine and prove your leadership skills. Actually, any stories that you mention in your answer can highlight your best abilities. For that you can follow common framework in answering any questions. It consists of 5 parts:


1. Situation

2. Problem

3. Solution

4. Results 

5. Your learnings
