What Bain HireVue MCQ test looks like? [SEA Region]

Hi, I received invitation to take Bain's HireVue MCQ (i.e., SEA Region). Many people said the MCQ similar like McKinsey PST and BCG Potential Test.

From my practice experience, McKinsey PST readings and questions are not hard, what makes it hard is the options. Seriously, the options given for each of the questions are kind of similar and look alike (except for the calculation parts). For a non English native speaker, it can be very tricky. On the other hand, the BCG Potential Test are more straightforward, they put more emphasis on the difficult questions and readings, rather than using tricky languages and options.

My question is, does Bain MCQ is more like McKinsey PST or BCG Potential Test?

Hi there,

I recommend you to check their own page, just in case you haven’t.
The questions are similar to GMAT ones, official GMAT prep materials should be sufficient if you can’t find Bain HireVue assessments in other forums.

Good luck!

Hey there 🙂, Bain's HireVue MCQ test in the SEA region is generally more similar to BCG's Potential Test rather than McKinsey's PST. Here’s why:

  • Less emphasis on tricky wording: Unlike McKinsey’s PST, where the challenge is often in the similar answer choices and subtle language nuances, Bain's test is more direct, focusing on problem-solving ability rather than language traps.
  • More emphasis on numerical & logical reasoning: Bain’s MCQ includes data interpretation, business logic, and quantitative reasoning, much like BCG’s Potential Test. Expect charts, graphs, and tables where you’ll need to extract insights.
  • Time pressure: Like McKinsey and BCG, the biggest challenge is time management—questions aren’t individually difficult, but solving them quickly is key.

How to Prepare?

Practice BCG Potential Test-style questions—focus on reading charts, business logic, and quantitative reasoning.
Brush up on mental math & estimations—quick calculations are critical under time pressure.
Develop a scanning technique—don’t get stuck on one tough question; keep moving.

Since you’ve practiced McKinsey PST & BCG Potential Test, you’re already on the right track! Just be mindful of time efficiency and focus on clear, logical reasoning.

Best of luck! Let me know if you need more tips. Best, Alessa 😇

HI there,

Bain’s HireVue MCQ is similar to GMAT-style assessments. Consider practicing with GMAT, SOVA, TestGorilla, or similar aptitude practice tests.

If English isn’t your first language, focus on verbal practice to handle subtle wording differences.

All the best,

Florian
