Updating profile while waiting for McKinsey Application review

Hi all,

I recently got my first rejection (BCG Advanced degree - such is life).

However, I had applied to McKinsey at the associate level, and in the interim I (just) landed a job at a boutique management consulting firm, leading their newly created Life Science Division (as I am a STEM PhD).

I am wondering if updating my profile to include this new position would be advantageous or not?

Any opinions would be great!

Hi there,

Q: I am wondering if updating my profile to include this new position would be advantageous or not?

Showing an additional consulting experience won’t harm your application and depending on the brand of the firm, could strengthen it. On the other hand, if you just joined the firm there is probably not much you can indicate as work experience.

If you are able to structure a few bullet points with your experience so far, I would update it. Otherwise, I would wait to have some experience before doing so.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi

Governing thought is probably not - unless it's a recognised / well-known brand (e.g. you landed an offer in the life sciences practice at LEK). That said, it certainly doesn't hurt to add the experience to your CV, but consider how you might want to frame it - e.g. something other than a FT offer, contract etc.

JMO - good luck!

Hi there,

Yes, I'd definitely update it!
